In České Budějovice, time has always mattered

I

t matters in the brewhouse. It matters in the lager cellars. And it matters in the decisions we choose not to rush.

When the alcohol-free category began to grow, we watched it closely. We knew that if we were to create one of our own 0.0%, it would have to live up to the same standards as every beer that leaves our brewery.

Not similar. Not close enough. The same.

Waiting was part of the process

The market was ready. We weren’t — not yet.

“While the alcohol-free category is already full of choice, Budvar chose to wait. Rather than rushing to market, we took the time to develop a technology that stays true to our brewing philosophy — no shortcuts, no compromises on taste.”
– Petr Dvořák, CEO

Because removing alcohol is easy. Preserving character is not.

Brewed first. Alcohol removed last

Budvar 0.0% is not made differently. It is made properly.

We brew it as a true Czech lager. We allow it to ferment fully. We leave it to mature for months in our lager cellars, where flavour develops slowly and naturally.

Only when the beer is ready do we gently remove the alcohol.

“The alcohol is removed using an innovative approach of cold membrane filtration with reverse osmosis, a method that avoids thermal stress and off-flavours common to other dealcoholisation techniques. The result is an alcohol-free beer that tastes like a real Czech lager, with no artificial aromas and no compromise on quality.”
– Petr Košin, Deputy Brewmaster

The brewing process remains untouched. The philosophy unchanged.

Familiar, for a reason

What you’re left with is unmistakably Budvar.

A bold, bready malt profile. A lightly spiced, fresh citrus aroma. A gentle bitterness that keeps everything in balance.

“I’ve always believed lager is a wonderful drink — pure, natural, and bringing people together for centuries,” says Adam Brož, Head Brewer at Budvar. “With our 0.0%, we stayed true to our brewing philosophy, so you can enjoy Budvar even in moments when regular beer doesn’t fit.”

Because beer is about more than alcohol. It’s about flavour. And the moments shared around it.

Brewed l0.0nger, taste richer

Alcohol-free beer is no longer a niche. Drinking occasions are evolving. Expectations are higher.

So we brewed a 0.0% the only way we know how — with patience.

Only the alcohol is missing.
