f you’ve followed Budweiser Budvar for a while, you may have noticed a few changes around here. We’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring you an overhaul of our website, a spruce-up of our packaging (coming soon) and a brand new e-shop! All of this to create a Czech drinking experience like no other. Now, we can proudly say, welcome, to the Republic of Beer!

The core driving force behind this change was to bring drinkers even closer to the Czech Republic through the medium of beer and its unique place within our culture! Over the coming months, together we will be exploring the traditions, history and people that make our beer culture one of the best in the world.

One way that we’re going to delve into these fascinating topics is through our new blog series. As this is a special evolutionary moment in the history of Budweiser Budvar, we enlisted the help of a very special individual to bring these stories to life. It gives us great pleasure to announce that the esteemed beer & wine writer and friend of the brewery, Jonny Tyson, will be channelling his exquisite penmanship to write our blog series!

onny has been involved in the world of beer for much of his life. He started working in pubs pot collecting, dishwashing and serving food, before he could even legally serve behind the bar.

After stints working in pubs and bars, he made the move to a branch of Oddbins in London, starting his education journey learning about wine and beer. Following a relocation to Vancouver, Canada, he ran a craft beer bar and restaurant, worked as a specialist beer retailer and buyer as well as writing articles for a Canadian health and lifestyle magazine on beer and wine.

Since returning to the UK, he co-designed and ran the beer education programme in Europe for Goose Island, Blue Point, Leffe and Bosteels as well as hosting many beer events and tastings. Jonny also co-developed the BPET (Beer Professional Education & Training) program where he was nominated for Imbibe magazine’s drinks educator of the year.

Jonny became the UK’s first Advanced Cicerone® and is an accredited Beer Sommelier with the Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD). He is a passionate educator and communicator, spreading the good word about beer wherever possible. He co-owns the South London Wine School where beer tastings and training are held in the same high regard as wine as well as working as a freelance writer, events host and educator.

or those of you interested in expanding your knowledge of the fermented malt elixir, Jonny has also launched a podcast called The Beer Wrangler Podcast, which you can access here.

We are extremely excited to have Jonny on board and simply cannot wait to unveil the pieces he has written! Watch out for the first couple of posts coming very soon. Subscribe to the newsletter to keep up date with all things Budvar!
